Break the chains

Song Info

Things are getting dangerous

We’re running outta time

So I’m packin’ up and movin’ on

And takin’ what’s mine

Most often things don’t turn out how you planned

That’s when you gotta take control and take command

There’s nothing left to hold me here to this town

And staying around a dead end is only gonna bring you down

There comes a time after taking so many falls

You get up dust yourself down and grab life by the balls

I’m leaving those I love behind, that’s the choice I make

And things may not work out but that’s the chance I take

When your life’s outta control you gotta grab at the reigns

But sometimes it’s best just to break the chains

Things R getting dangerous and outta control

A city that used 2 B so alive seems 2 have lost its soul

No one’s left who really cares any more

And those who do R 2 scared 2 unlock their door

Even my woman was playing around

Nothing seems built to last

So I got rid of her good and plenty fast

No jobs around no money to earn

Welcome to the school of life and it’s a hard lesson 2 learn

U gotta look after yourself no matter what the cost

No room for emotion, gotta be strong or you’re lost

I’m tired of the hurt, I’m tired of all the pain

So I’m moving on, gotta break the chains

I’d met with Doug for a songwriting session and started playing this basic bass line.  It was a play on the bass line Doug had played me for ‘Minneapolis Blue’, to which Doug wrote ‘Break the chains’.  It took him about 10 minutes.
