Beautiful World

Song Info

Won’t you let me see the world that lies behind your eyes?

Let me in and I promise to stay for just a little while

I’ve got so much love to give and it’s all for you

Take a look into my heart and you’ll know it’s true

Was my love not good enough?

Not all you thought it would be

Yeah and you still took my love

And you left me so lonely

Well I took nothing from you but you left me with hurt

Through it all I still love you a little more than I should

Bitter sweet memories and pain locked inside

I’ve been to that beautiful place behind your eyes

Was my love not good enough?

Not all you thought it would be

Yeah and you still took my love

And you left me so lonely

Although you hurt me I grow stronger inside

The love so deep within me is too strong to hide

Was my love not good enough?

Not all you thought it would be

Yeah and you still took my love

And you left me so lonely

We’d been rehearsing for a demo-tape that never materialised in the summer of 1996.  We’d been playing ‘Before the Fall’ and ‘Demons and Angels’ a lot and away from these sessions I’d been writing the body of ‘Magic’.  Beautiful world was a song Chris brought to the sessions. It was nice but didn’t fit into the energy we’d been churning out.  We’d played ‘New Religion’, ‘Creep’ and ‘Oh! Didn’t I say’ in those sessions too so you can see why this song didn’t quite fit.  I took it away and produced something that wasn’t ever going to sit comfortably alongside anything on ‘Magic’ so it ended up on ‘Foxygen’, which was a kind of ‘Magic 2’, or perhaps more accurately, ‘Magic’ the outtakes.

I’m not sure Chris was ever happy with the results regardless.
