Another place to hide

Song Info

I took the first train but before I left

I needed something to release the stress I'm in

I took another 'paper' from my bag

Sat down, and lit a cigarette

I'm looking for another place to hide

I lost my heart and I misplaced my pride

Saying nothing to protect myself

I left my number, I wrote it on the second shelf

Could not believe I had to leave this way

But I know, I'll be back some other day

Outside the world is rushing by

I know it's fading before my eyes

I know, it's true what people say yeah

That this fear is all our yesterdays

And now I look back with affection

But lies won't be my one protection

My first song written from someone else’s point of view. I don’t smoke so saying ‘sat down, and lit a cigarette’ was a big line for me.

It’s about leaving. About getting out, getting your stuff in order, shipping out. ‘Fear is all our yesterdays’, is really the 21 year old me still being affected by things that happened at school, the ridicules and the not-fitting-in. The older me realises that fear is now in our tomorrows and I do indeed ‘look back with affection’.
