28th Day of Summer

Song Info

Every year it’s like a religion

I get to talk to those who know me

Time in between just grows

It’s just back to where it began

Fifteen years, no, seven years

When I look there’s still a boy inside the man

It takes me back to where I feel  the shadows haunt me

It takes me back to where I feel the 28th day of sun

It’s why I come here, the 3rd day of autumn

I close my eyes and fall into a sun that burns

It’s burning blue

I’m never alone as when I stand above it all and look down

Here comes the start of something new of something new

Just a moment in time

It’s in here its everywhere

And the ghost of everything

And the spirit of the moment still in there

It takes me back to where I feel  the shadows haunt me

It takes me back to where I feel the 28th day of sun

It’s why I come here, the 3rd day of autumn

I close my eyes and fall into a sun that burns

It’s burning blue

Written entirely on acoustic guitar, its about that feeling of knowing it’s one of the last warm days of the year, trying to appreciate the sun, and sometimes, the freedom of a week or two off work.

The story is a bit boring but I’d dislocated my fingers playing football and I managed to get the hospital to give me a 2 week sick note from work. It was October and I made the most of my time off. I went to the beach (the 3rd day of Autumn, is the 3rd October - not strictly correct) and it was a really bright, warm day and I’m sitting there eating ice cream, in October. Yeah - bit boring but that’s where this song comes from.
